I recently interviewed rising female rapper 3D Natee for MrSoldOut.com. The Uptown New Orleans born artist kept it authentic when answering my questions about her turn-ons, artists she would like to work with, female rappers that has influenced her and rejecting the deal offered by Timbaland. Let’s talk about “Switch.” What you did with that song hasn’t been done to my knowledge, what made you take that approach?
The song “Switch” came about because I was choosing industry tracks to rap over for Guess Who’s Coming 2 Dinner and realized that I had more Timbaland tracks than anything. Tim is one of my favorite producers but I could have a whole mixtape filled with his tracks, so I ended up making snippets of all the Timbaland tracks and making mixing them into a 5-minute song. The lyrics just came. It was really a process I can’t explain. Then when I shot the video it just brought the whole record to life.Was the ultimate goal always to get Timbaland’s attention?
Nope. I never thought he’d even see it. My goal was just to make a great song. The fact that it gained Timbaland, Missy, & Justin Timberlake’s attention let alone gaining new fans was unexpected.What was that conversation like when you first talked to Timbaland?
When I pulled up to the Hit Factory in Miami Tim and Missy were standing outside. As I got out the car I could hear him saying, “that’s her.” They introduced them selves and then he told Missy, “You have to see her video. This was they girl I told you about from YouTube. You got to see her. She is nice.” Then that first night he called everybody into the studio, had me plug up my iPad, and we listen to my music for almost an hour straight. When he heard ”Dear Father” he played it back 6x and said, “You are the best f*cking rapper on the planet.” I’ll never forget that.

After dropping 4 mixtapes, O.N.E (One Not Equal) readies his first album titled Spirit Driven. It’s been 10 months in the making so hopefully the anticipation for this album won’t be in vain.
Spirit Driven could be the soundtrack one day while sipping some sangria on your patio with a nice breeze blowing outside & reading The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People… or XXL. Every song has a calming mellowness to it that just puts your mind at ease for a moment. There’s more to life than being “bout dat life” & “ridin’ ‘round & gettin’ it,” you know?
My favorites on Spirit Driven are “Climb That Hill” featuring H-Kane & Jack Freeman, “Right This Time” featuring Sheba, “Piano Music” featuring Eskabel, “Comfortable” featuring Lee-Lonn & “Dues Are Paid” featuring DeLorean. I would’ve loved to have heard at least one rump shaking song, but I understand that that’s not O.N.E’s goal for this album :-).
One thing I want to point out on the album is the piano solo on the intro to “Right This Time.” It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve heard in a while! It made me think of Coolio’s “C U When U Get There” or better yet Johann Pachelbel’s “Canon in D Major.” It makes you want to cry & smile at the same time.
Roses, picking them like the lotto. Laying them off in coffins, lyrically homicidal. Selling gimmicks, you timid. Can hear it through your bravada.

Queen Bobbi & LongHornBrit recently sat with a few members of the Headwreckas collection Doughbeezy, KAB Tha Don, and DoubleBe. It’s almost hard to believe that this is the same Juicy J that had me “Sippin on some Sizzurp,” or at least pretending, more than 10 years ago but it is indeed the trippy timeline of a musical genius. The crowd ranged from high school girls to grown career women all hoping to hear their favorite Juicy J song.
Texas legend, and original king of weed rap tunes (I just made that up), Devin The Dude opened the show with classics as “Do What You Wanna Do” & “P*ssy Weed & Alcohol.” The youngins hanging at the front had no clue who are what they were witnessing but appreciated every second.
I was too into the show to get anything 3-6 Mafia related but I did catch “Zip and a Double Cup” “Bands Make Her Dance” “and “Who da Neighbors” live from Juicy J, brought to you by Jessica Vickery & 365 Live.

This weekend, Houston hosted the Bi-Annual Houston Sneaker Summit with the after party held at Warehouse Live. Chicago up-comer Chief Keef was the headline performance and he didn’t disappoint. Like many people my age, I had no clue Chief Keef had fans. It may not have been a million fans, but the ones that showed up were dedicated to the cause. Mosh Pits were formed, people were jumping on stage, I felt like I was at a Lil Jon concert in 2003. Yes, it was that serious. People were being pushed off the stage, people were getting stepped on. Thank goodness for the chivalrous gentleman protecting me :-).
The event was presented by 365 Live, so that makes them 2/2. Good way to start.
SN: Houston artist Doughbeezy wasn’t scheduled to perform last night but due to some difficulties with other acts he hit the stage and had the crowd rocking like it was planned. That’s why he’s the people’s champ.
The crowd: no one was older that 22 years old.
Overheard: “I hate this song” referring to Lil KeKe’s “Southside” anthem. SMH
